SPARK’S INITIATIVE
SPARK is a website dedicated to help collect data and further research for individuals and/or family members with autism. To assist with the research process, we were tasked to design questionnaires and infographics for our target audience across platform and develop the brand.

KNOWING THE DEMOGRAPHIC
We wanted to show that autism can affect a wide arrange of people: multi-ethnic families, individuals, nuclear families, or single-parent families. We had to be selective of the photos we used, but wanted to show the happier, normal side of autistic families. Here are some of the photos that I compiled and used for branding.

FRIENDLY AESTHETICS
While exploring the brand building, we wanted to create an unique iconography and illustration style. We avoided the usual flat, sharp look and feel from other projects because of our target audience. Instead, the illustrations were drawn by the pen tool on Illustrator manually. Each illustration was given an outlined brush stroke. The results gave us a friendly display and a more organic texture to the imagery.

MODERN FONT
Lato was the chosen font for this brand because of the numerous font weights and web-safe accessibility across all platforms. The sans-serif style gives it a nice, modern look.

RESEARCHING BEHAVIOR
SPARK wanted to collect data on autism (family and individuals) in a simple way. I worked closely with the UX designer to create the website and the registration experience. During the design exploration, I discovered that autistic patients had an easier time filling out the forms when the buttons were bigger and using calmer colors made it less invasive for their eyes. Illustrations were also designed to help explain certain parts of the registration process.
Because we had to be conscientious of autistic patients during this process, we learned that filling out a long form field might be difficult with someone with a cognitive disorder. We made sure that the users also had the option to fill in their answers, save it, and fill out any unanswered questions after registering at a later time.
